Now that Nicholas Brody has met his doom, it’s time for Carrie Mathison to take center stage in the Showtime drama “Homeland.”
“Obviously, there’s a big reset (for the show),” Showtime entertainment chief David Nevins told reporters Thursday at the Television Critics Association press tour. “The show is fundamentally about a field operative, and we haven’t seen her much out in the field operating.”
The likely scenario for Season 4, said Nevins, will find Carrie (Claire Danes) “on the ground in a foreign country doing her job.” Nevins added that he expects Mandy Patinkin’s Saul Berenson to be a central figure in Season 4.
Season 3 ended with a pregnant Carrie getting an offer to run the CIA bureau in Istanbul, her dream gig, and seriously considering giving up Brody’s baby. For three seasons, the Carrie-Brody relationship was the heart of “Homeland” and fueled its popularity. In Season 3, “Homeland” became the first Showtime series, according to Nevins, to average 7 million viewers a week.
Also on Thursday, Showtime announced its spring schedule, which includes the final season of the David Duchovny comedy, “Californiacation.”
On April 13, “Nurse Jackie” (9 p.m.) returns for its sixth season, in front of “Californication” (9:30 p.m.) and “Years of Living Dangerously” (10 p.m.), a documentary series about climate change.
In addition, Showtime will premiere its highly anticipated horror series, “Penny Dreadful,” at 10 p.m. May 11.
